Colonial Secretary's Office,

Hongkong.

26th October, 1914.

Sir,

With reference to your application for anı

extension of leave which has been granted, I am

directed to inform you that this Government does not

regard your claim to leave in respect of previous

service in Perak as valid. General Order 154 which

you quote in support of your contention provides that such leave may be granted as an act of Grace to

an officer transferred from one Colony to another

after a long interval of service without leave. It

was never contemplated that the privilege should continue through the officer's service.

2. The extension of 2 months which His Excellency was pleased to grant you on urgent private affairs exhaute the balance of your leave available.

I am, etc.,

(Signed) CLAUD SEVERN.

Colonial Secretary.

E. IRVING, ESQ.,

Sarlsdown,

Exmouth,

England.
